De su vida solamente se sabe que pasó por lo menos doce años en la Sierra Gorda de Querétaro, seis entre los otomíes y otros tantos entre los pames. Nos dejó un manuscrito que llamó "Tratado del arte y unión de los idiomas otomí y pame; vocabularios de los idiomas pame, otomí, mexicano y jonaz". El manuscrito de Soriano estuvo en poder de Francisco Pimentel y posteriormente perteneció a Joaquín García Icazbalceta; actualmente se encuentra en la biblioteca Benson de la Universidad de Texas en Austin. La presente obra es producto de la transcripción del texto de Soriano en 1995 y 1996, así como del trabajo de paleografía y edición de Yolanda Lastra.
