La Mixteca se encuentra dividida entre los estados de Puebla, Guerrero y Oaxaca. Este diccionario presenta una amplia selección de palabras del mixteco que se habla en el municipio de Magdalena Peñasco, distrito de Tlaxiaco, Oaxaca. Está basado en los estudios lingüísticos llevados a cabo durante los últimos quince años. Las tres personas cuyos nombres aparecen como autores son dos hablantes nativos y una lingüista. Los hablantes nativos, Martimiana Aguilar Feria y Vicente García Rojas, proporcionaron la mayoría de los datos, incluso las oraciones ilustrativas, y la lingüista se dedicó a la organización y presentación de estos.
