Esta revisión permite cuestionar los acendrados prejuicios que identifican a los indígenas sólo con el pasado prehispánico y a los mestizos y blancos con la sociedad mestiza moderna. Igualmente, muestra que los mestizos están profundamente divididos según su identidad, su cultura y su clase social, por lo que buena parte de los conflictos étnicos en nuestro país suceden entre ellos, más que con los indígenas.
