Un primer punto básico es conocer y saber cuándo aplicar diferentes técnicas estadísticas a nuestros estudios arqueológicos o disciplinas afines. Un segundo aspecto es cómo utilizar R en los análisis estadísticos. R es un lenguaje de programación estadístico publicado con licencia libre y que tiene una implantación enorme en la comunidad científica. Este paquete es una interfaz gráfica de R que permite hacer una enorme cantidad de análisis estadísticos sin necesidad de conocer el código base que se ejecuta. De este modo, se facilita considerablemente la interacción del científico con R. El último y cuarto punto y, no menos importante, es que se publica en castellano. Notará el lector de este manual la casi total ausencia de fórmulas matemáticas. No es intención del autor hacer un estudio detallado de la base matemática de los análisis estadísticos.
