En este sentido el municipio de San Francisco Cherán, Michoacán, México dio una batalla legal por el respeto a sus derechos de autonomía y libre determinación, tema que ganaron ante el Poder Judicial de la Federación, logrando así ser el único municipio en el país que se organiza y gobierna sin partidos políticos, bajo sus usos y costumbres como comunidad purépecha.

El presente libro recoge una selección de las ponencias presentadas en el Seminario Permanente Cultura y Representaciones Sociales del 2012, sobre el retorno de las culturas populares en las ciencias sociales latinoamericanas. Esta problemática se sitúa en el contexto del posmodernismo, una corriente de pensamiento que floreció en los años ochenta y noventa al calor del neoliberalismo y la caída del muro de Berlín. Una tesis central de esta corriente afirma que la hibridación cultural reemplaza las fronteras y las clasificaciones rígidas. En América Latina, esta tesis se retoma y desarrolla con originalidad, causando un profundo impacto en la concepción y el análisis de la cultura en los países latinoamericanos y contribuyendo, quizás por un fenómeno de efecto colateral no previsto, a la invisibilización y cuasi eliminación de las culturas populares y los análisis de clases en la agenda académica.

"Historia de la cerveza en México" recorre el azaroso camino de esta bebida en el territorio americano, desde su llegada al Nuevo Mundo tras la conquista española, los primeros intentos para su fabricación, hasta la difícil etapa de aceptación durante la época novohispana y su posterior consolidación durante el siglo XX. En el presente volumen la autora señala que aunque la cerveza no necesariamente fue la primer bebida fermentada que llegó al paladar humano, sin duda fue una de las más antiguas y hoy es, quizá, la más popular del mundo.

La apropiación del agua de buena calidad en México por parte de una internacionalizada y voraz industria embotelladora de bebidas es un tema poco estudiado, a pesar de la gran relevancia por sus implicaciones en materia socioeconómica, legal, ecológica y de afectaciones a la salud. El presente trabajo colectivo, de carácter interdisciplinario, ofrece una revisión nacional, identificando los principales actores y su emplazamiento geográfico, sus acciones, discursos e implicaciones. Se aterriza con el análisis de tres casos de estudio: dos plantas refresqueras y una cervecera, develando las modalidades en que se establecen las relaciones de poder y de cómo se establece el negocio entre el sector privado, el Estado y la población local.

La rica diversidad cultural del mundo indudablemente se puede relacionar con las distintas realidades de acceso al líquido vital. En el caso de México la cultura azteca o mexicana se desarrolló en el Valle de México en un medio ambiente acuático, donde se construyó un paisaje cultural de chinampas y canales. En este contexto, la UNESCO se dio la tarea de correlacionar lo que es la cultura del agua de un pueblo con la oferta natural y sus características etnográficas. El objetivo de este trabajo es identificar, registrar y sistematizar el conocimiento en relación a lo que los pueblos hacían y siguen haciendo con el agua, en el agua y por el agua.
