De ahí también el interés del autor por indagar sobre la radiodifusión de rock en la Ciudad de México. Desde el momento en que el rock irrumpió en el mundo hacia la década de 1950, primero en países fuertemente industrializados como Estados Unidos y Gran Bretaña y luego, desde allí, gradualmente en el resto del mundo, la radio desempeñó un papel central en la difusión y transmisión de esa música y los valores, ideas y prácticas culturales que la acompañaban. Por otro lado, tanto la radio como la propia música rock forman parte de una industria cultural en la que intervienen e interactúan fuerzas tan complejas como el mismo capitalismo, las ideologías de Estado o la libertad de expresión. El objetivo principal de esta investigación es analizar la radiodifusión de rock de la Ciudad de México a partir de la contradicción que plantea la integración de una forma de expresión de origen contracultural como el rock, en principio underground o alternativo, a los espacios populares de lo mainstream que están ligados a la cultura dominante. Esto a partir de considerar dicha contradicción como parte de un proceso de mercantilización, difusión y circulación del rock como bien simbólico a través de un medio de transmisión cultural como la radio. Con esta base se busca definir el papel de la radio en la cultura juvenil alternativa mexicana de los años setenta a los noventa, distinguir los principales espacios radiofónicos de dicha cultura, definir sus características, así como localizar y analizar los hilos conductores y/o tendencias que los vinculan entre sí.
