Se establece como núcleo sistémico la interacción entre evolución y ontogenia donde se soporta el desarrollo cultural de la especie. Entre los procesos evolutivos más relevantes se señalan a la construcción-herencia del nicho y a la selección ontogénica. Por su parte la ontogenia es básica como variabilidad heredable y un sistema en desarrollo que permite el nacimiento del ente biológico dispuesto al crecimiento y estructuración como un ser biocultural. El carácter cultural relativo al uso y vivencia humana a partir de signos sólo tiene existencia y realidad al integrarse en la ontogenia que hace del Homo sapiens un Homo significans.
